different colors of hardwood
whats the correct method to create a different color border in hardwood flooring?
Use a different stain or buy a hardwood that stains darker and use the same stain. thanks |
By using a differant darker wood your not going to have to fight trying to stain two differant colors right next to each other.

The best way to get a good looking boarder or inset is to use different species of wood. Example: walnut with a maple boarder or for a less drastic look try cherry with walnut. Do not mix species from different countries. These wood are grown in different climents and react differently to moisture. They will expand and contract at different rates causing problems.

Wow. sorry about the huge picture. Will shrink it next time. Have not seen any issues with different expansion rates between the two different woods.

Chitownken, IS that engineered wood or solid?
|
Solid. Been down three years and have not seen any issues.
|
I agree. Using a different wood species is the way to go. It is very hard even with multiple layers of tape to not have stain bleed under the tape onto the other wood.

Buddy I have say that is one beautiful floor.nice job.
