Cutting installed tiles

Bathroom remodel. Putting in a new 3 wall aclove tub that is larger (back to front) then the existing. Existing tile goes to the edge of the tub that is there now. I will need to "trim" the tile back about an inch. I'm thinking edge grinder and a steady hand. Any better ideas? I don't want to replace the tile because it runs throughout most of the house. Other option is to just lay the tub on the tile. I then would have to raise the area where the tub sits. It's a concrete subfloor. For some reason it just doesn't seem like a good idea to put the tub on top of it...

Steve,

I guess you have never removed a tub before? You'll have to remove the tile to get it out. How were you planning to get it out?

You should be looking into a new tub liner instead IF the wall tiles are to remain,

I assumed, hate it when I do that..., that the tile essentially butted up to the tub. I take it that is not the case? Is there a lip at the bottom of the existing tub? I have tiled around an installed tub and I don't remember seeing anything like that.

Also, wall tiles are coming down too.

A diamond blade in the angle grinder will work fine, grab the shop vac and have someone hold the nozzle right near the cut. If you didn't want to cut the tile, use some self leveling concrete floor patch to level out the step from the tile.

Hey Skippy,

We know how to cut the tiles and keep the dust down, BUT Steve wants to remove and replace the tub. I guess it wasn't clear what he plans to do?
