Cutback Removed -- Now What??
I received some (apparently) bad advice and spent a lot of hard time and messy effort removing a thin layer of cutback using paint thinner from a concrete slab. Should have researched this better first. It left what looks like a stain on the slab, now I hear that chemical residue may be a problem.

Should have researched this better first. Anyone have an opinion on how to proceed? Soap and water? Drysweep? Just lay right over it (we are using a modified thinset)? Any other good ideas?

I'd appreciate any advise.

Sorry, tried to edit and somehow this posted twice. If moderator wishes to remove redundant one, please feel free.

How long ago did you use the thinner?

I suggest you use a two part thin set for this---that is the best bet as you have a possible bond breaker going there--

Unmodified mixed with liquid latex or acrylic---Kerabond and Keralastic is a good example--

2 days.
I have ultraflex 2 (MAPEI) on site (supposedly, this is professional grade as opposed to ultraflex 1). When you say "use a two part thin set for this," do you mean making my own modified by buying unmodified and adding an additive and then proceeding normally, or are you suggesting a 2 step application? Or increasing the ratio of additive to 2 parts? (sorry if this is a dumb question, I assume its the first option, but want to make sure, thanks).

Ultra flex is a good modified--But I always used unmodified and a liquid--that has never failed me--

I think you have waited long enough--

Thanks for the advice. We won't be getting back to the project until next weekend, so it'll have some more time to sit.
Thanks again.
