cut nails

I am having new pre-finished wide plank 3/4" pine hardwood installed and have decided to face nail (in addition to hidden nails) instead of spending $400-$500 on adhesive. Any opinions on face nailing with cut nails and pre-driiling pilot holes ie: boards splitting, versus using regular finish nails with nail gun? Thanks...

cut nails

Hi
Didn't the manufactures of your flooring have nailing scheduling and size, beings that your going with wide plank?I bought some plank from a mil,1" thick,9" to 13" wide and nothing less than 7`long. He (The Rep)had all that sort of information for me.He even gave me a plastic nail pattern for drilling and nailing.Seems odd your in this dilemma.I used 2.5 cut nails, 4 nails on the ends and 3 every 2` in the field.Hope this helps you out. Call your rep...............................
