convert bulk carpet to finish carpet possible?

I have approx 700 sq.ft of bulk high end carpet... coming from replacing laminate in an high end condo... they are in like new condition... Thinking about using them in basement but I end up used laminate, I should have not taken it as I am now stuck with them... but would like to know if there is any way I can convert them to somthing more useful... like regular rug... which I can put here or there throughout the house... you know like those finished house rugs in the entry, under the coffee table, in the washroom...etc... As throwing them away also requires a lot of labour and possibly dumping charges. Dumping them also not quite environmental friendly...

any advice is appreciated...

What you want is carpet binding. You should be able to find a carpet shop in the yellow pages or online. They should be able to help you.

Thanks a lot... "carpet binding" that is the term I am looking for and I will start to search the web for that...... that is neat... I thought we need to use those sawing machine to achieve that... my wife instantly reply me to do it myself when I mentioned that..... now I feel better... I really don't want to dump the thing to the landfill.. I feel guilty about the environment...

Kui****g

If you or your wife, or someone you know, is good with sewing, you can do it by hand.

There are special needles for carpet and special heavy thread.
You can do a nice "button hole" stitch all the way around and it will look really nice.

convert bulk carpet to finish carpet possible?

Thanks for the info, I do think we have difficulties in attempting to do this by sewing consider my progress on baseboard is currently approx 10 linear feet / day... due to this beatiful weather currently in Toronto and the kids... I think we probably end up dumping the carpet as I cannot find any of those insta-bind or easy-bind selling in Canada like in US... without those... the carpet is useless.... anyway... may try more...

You can do this yourself with a hand stapler and a hot glue gun.
