contractor installing vinyle with baseboards on still


Is it correct that if installing vinyle with baseboards that they would have to leave 1\2 inch opening between the baseboard and the new vinyle.

No--you are thinking of hardwood which needs expansion space,

Sheet goods can be cut tight and attached without issues.

There's no reason to remove the base boards for vinyl installations, just the shoe molding. It's a good idea to leave a little space maybe 1/8-1/4". You definitely don't want a 1/2" gap though. Is it really that wide? The shoe molding will just barely cover that.

Did you think they should have removed the base?

The vinyl backed vinyls (like IVC) require 1/8" gap around all obstructions. Felt backed vinyls can be cut in tight
