Cleat nails for old pine floorboards?

Hi all,

I just have a quick question if it's ok to use cleat nails instead of brad nails to nail down old pine floorboards?

The boards are an inch thick and the nails I have are 2 inches long.

I'm thinking of drilling a small pilot hole for each nail as the boards are very dry to prevent splitting.

Thanks!

Cleats are often used when installing wood flooring. However, most wood flooring is 3/4" thick rather than 1". So the only possible concern I see with this would be the cleats being long enough to go through the tongue and into the subfloor. I would just try it and if the cleats are going into the subfloor at least a 1/4" or so, then this should be just fine.
