Choosing wood flooring

Does anyone have suggestions about how to select color for wood flooring? Existing built in cabinetry in living room and kitchen is mid-toned, warm, oak wood in a "fruitwood" stain.

pickup samples of different flooring that you think you might like. you can also look for photos of flooring on the internet and you may find some with furniture a similar color to what you have.

If you have fruitwood, I would either match it, or go much lighter or much darker. As I feel that anything in between would look as if you tried to match the stain, but didn't. Some possible options might be; birch or maple if going lighter, or walnut if going darker. Or staining maple, birch, red oak, or white oak a darker color would also work if going darker. Hope this helps.

go buy 2-3 boxs of what you think you like (those little samples are about useless). assemble those planks on the floor. then stand there and look at it, for a while = day or 2. do this until you find the flooring you like.

I agree with Awoodfloorguy. Don't try to match it (even if it matches perfectly today, as the wood ages it might not match in the future).

For example, I put in a hickory floor. In my living room, I plan to make a cherry entertainment center. For my office, walnut desks.
