Ceramic Tiles on a basement flooded before.

So I have a guy to remove the current Vinyl tiles in my basement to replace with Ceramic tiles. We found out the bathroom has been flooded before because when we knocked down a closet to make the basement more spacious, we found water stains behind the wood baseboard. The Vinyl tiles have bubbles here and there. The flood was probably the cause.

What preworks should I do now knowing the basement has been flooded, before installing ceramic tiles?

Thanks,

Hi Chicity2,

If the flood was a on-time thing and it's otherwise dry, (by testing), you will be ok as far as that goes. Just call your homeowners insurance to get/increase flood coverage for your basement.

Since you have vinyl tiles I will presume the adhesive or its residue remains. Please let us know what you've got. Also size, and condition of the slab including any cracks or control joints. Pics help. Also need to check how flat the floor is. Get a long straight edge, (8-10') measure the max gap when held on floor at various spots to be tiled.
