ceramic tile stairs with wood nosing

Hi, I am ceramic tiling my stairs to the basement. I would like to put tile on the stairs and hardwood for the nosing. The stairs are wood with a rounded edge for the nose. They are sturdy, but I was told to put plywood onto the stair so the plywood stuck out the same distance as the rounded nose. Then put the tile on and nail and glue the square nosing onto the rounded nosing of the stair. This way the plywood would act as a reinforcement for the top of the new hardwood nosing. What do you think about this??I've seen the tile done with the wood nosing, but I can't find wood nosing for ceramic tiles.
