ceramic tile over linoleum on concrete base

Hi, I'm looking to get ceramic tile in my kitchen. The house is 7yrs old and right now there is linoleum over concrete. The company that we might use says they will just tile right over the linoleum. The linoleum is in really good condition. Can anybody advise us if this is a good idea? Ive also been discussing with my wife that i should lay the tile myself. Does anyone know of any good aids to show me exactly what i need to do.

I believe it can be done, although not a great recommendation. just need certain products, not an expert on what those products are..

Personally though, if it were my place i'd pull up the lino. Would be pretty easy to do with a heat gun.

It can be done using a two part thinset --liquid latex and powdered unmodified thinset.

Like the last poster mentioned, installing over vinyl is always a second choice as bonding to a slick surface presents a risk of bond failure.

Some modified thinsets are also approved for use over vinyl.

Be sure the vinyl is a 'full spread glue' installation--if the sheet goods are a 'perimiter glue'(glue at edges only) install then the sheet goods must be removed.
