Ceramic Tile on Drywall

I have a raised bathroom in my finished basement due to an upflush system. The step going up into the room is finished with drywall....Can I put ceramic tile onto the drywall as a toe kick going into the bathroom? Will the tile stay adhered to the wall or do I need to put something else there so it remains permanent? Thanlks

Take down the rock and put up Durock or Hardibacker or some other brand of concrete board. Tile over that, you should be fine. BTW, tile isn't going to take a lot of "kicking" as a toe kick, but as long as you're easy on it, you'll be OK.

They now have a special material that you can put on the sheetrock and then tile over it.
