Ceramic Tile...Do I have enough sub flooring?

Hello, I am looking to rip up the existing linoleum in our bathroom. The linoleum is glued to 1/2 inch plywood that is attached to 1 inch particle board. The total subfloor is 1 1/2 inches thick.

Would it be possible to rip up the linoleum and remove the small amount of glue and lay ceramic tile with the existing subflooring? Or would it be best if I still lay down 1/4 inch cement backer board on top of everything? Thank you very much for the information.

You would have to find out if its OSB ply or MDF 1st. Give us specs on joists as well size and dementions.

Cement backer board does nothing to increase structural stiffness. Or at least you shouldn't count on it.

1 1/2" of subfloor is plenty. However thickness isn't everything. There is joist size, joist spacing, and other miscellaneous things.

I don't like cement backer board very much. I far prefer Ditra.
