ceramic tile on basement concrete floor

Hi guys. I'm finishing a bathroom in my basement. My question is do I have to lay a membrane or anything to lay tile on it or can I tile directly on the concrete floor. Thanks for your help.

For years, decades, generations, tile has been installed directly to concrete without many issues.

Now days there are membranes available. It's your choice.

I think if I was doing it for myself I would not use a membrane if the concrete is old(er) and no cracking but I would use a flexible modified thinset. Probably Custom's Megaflex thinset.
