So here is where I am at.. My mom and I are both chemically sensitive. We had to get rid of our carpet last night and have been on the original oak hardwood floors.

After the carpet was pulled up, we noticed that by the front door there was original vinyl. Since we were worried about asbestos. Had a company come out and just tile around the front entrance because we wanted it covered right away.

Now, I have been researching about getting the hardwood refinished, but I've tested samples (including one zero VOC) and it is not something we can live with at all. We are that bad with odors.

Now looking into tile and don't know which would be better for the front room and dining room Ceramic or Porcelain.

The company that put in the entry way over charged us and say they don't have enough of that same tile to cover the front room and dining room.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We do want some type of tile, but we must make sure it doesn't clash with what's in the entry way.

Surely you can find a complimentary tile to accent the entry tile, or vicee versee. Install a border around the entry using a third color tile and go for it. There are tens of thousands of colors and patterns and textures and sizes and shapes to choose from.

Oh and by the way.....

Porcelain tile is ceramic tile.

Well, the company we hired to do the tile is local. When they had someone come out the man 'messed up' and started pulling up the old vinyl floor which had asbestos. We really don't want to work with this company again, and in the end we found they charged about $13 per sqare foot.. We only went with this company because we wanted the vinyl covered right away and Home Depot wouldn't touch it (because of the asbestos).

When we chose this tile it was cheaper because they had 'a lot in stock' but when I called the company yesterday, I was told they had it in stock for a long time and that there is no way I would be able to find any more like it. It doesn't sound like they'd be able to order it either. Ugh!

I thoght that Porcelain tile different than ceramic as it is all glass, while ceramic just has a top layer of glass. Both tiles are in different areas at Home Depot.

Nope! Porcelain is a form of ceramic but uses a more sophisticated recipe in its making.

Ain't goin' there either.
