CDX between 1/4" underlayment and 1X boards

I am screwing down 1/2 plywood over a 1x board subfloor and then stapling 1/4 underlayment grade ply over that for a vinyl floor.

Is CDX ok for the 1/2" filler ply?

I believe you would be better served by using 3/4" T&G plywood, than 1/2" sheeting.

I would use 3/4 and 1/4, but it should work with 1/2 and 1/4 for vinyl.
