Hi, I have a fiberglass tub and want to recaulk between the tub and floor, do I have to remove all the old caulk which is very hard to do. I am using a good putty knife and some of it is impossible to get off. If I do need to remove it all, what is the best way to do it? Thanks!
It won't look so good if you don't remove the old. However as you know, it's not easy and there's a chance you might cause damage to the tub if not careful.
A heat gun, hair dryer will help. If the old is silicone, they make removers. "Dap" brand is one I've used. Wooden "putty" knives don't damage.
What"s on the floor now? If it's tile then use a single edged razor knife.
new Silicone will not stick to old caulking.
