Carpet underlay to reduce noise

Hello all..hope you could help me with the following.

Current setup for the room upstairs is hardwood with carpet above. We'd like to put something under the carpet to reduce the noise (could hear the person sleeping in that room snore and sometimes there is banging from their cane). I know we can't eliminate all sounds but we'd like to reduce. Any suggestions as to what we could put under the carpet?

Also, I recently went to a carpet store and explained the situation and they suggested a product called Super Dura. Below are the specifications. Could you please comment? Thx.

Rubber pad tends to get hard and disintegrate over time.
