Since I know a lot of flooring people visit this forum, I thought I'd post this question here. I have wall-to-wall off-white carpet over wood floors. The carpet's been down for about 15 years. Type of carpet? Since it's not a berber, I'd guess it'd be called "plush" carpet. I've had two 6-foot wooden totem poles sitting on the carpet in the living room for about 5 years. When I removed the totem poles (I'm moving), I discovered yellow stains about 1 foot by 1 foot right where these totem poles sat. In the middle of one of these yellow stains was a brown stain. I've tried department store rug cleaners in the can, but nothing is bringing out the stain. I've called a professional rug repair company in hopes that they'd take carpet out of our closet and use that carpet to patch in these spots. He came out, took a look, and said that it'd look worse because the patch job with the 4 seams would be quite noticeable. I then called a professional carpet cleaner and once they heard what type of stain it was, they said that they'd probably not be able to get it out. Do you have any ideas of what I could try? I have an Open House next week, and I want to try other alternatives before they come in and see these stains. Any ideas???
