carpet to laminate transition
What is the best way to transition existing carpet to new laminate so the carpet will both stay where it is and fit underneath the T-moulding? We cut out a large section of carpet in our dinette area which is part of our great-room and will lay laminate down. My first thought and attempt was to cut the carpet and padding, cut the padding back another 2-3 inches underneath the carpet, put re-used tack strips down and stretch/push down the carpet on to the tack strip. Do I need to fold the carpet first before attaching to the tack strip so the tacks don't push through the carpet? When I do that it doesn't look like the T-moulding would fit over the carpet.

Put the molding track close to the laminate. Put the tackstrip within approx 3/8" of the track. Stretch and trim the carpet. Put the T molding over the top of both edges.

T mold doesn't work well as a carpet end cover . The reason is the part of the tmold that covers the carpet is very thin , The carpet is not a solid surface that will support this , END MOLD is what is used and the carpet is tacked and stretched tight to the end molding ,not under it . It is possible to use the end mold , But not recomended

CRI installation standards prohibit tacking carpet in doorways. It would void any warranty. Besides a plush carpet looks terrible when tacked.
