Carpet to hardwood transition.

I'm re-doing some flooring that was damaged in a leak, and will end up with some carpet (existing) and some hardwood. From the reading I've done it seems like there are two choices to finish the carpet at the transition:

1. Use a tackless strip.
2. Fold and staple the carpet (no tackless strip).

What are the pros and cons of these approaches?

We had a couple of transitions that used tackless strips and I didn't think they were particularly good, but maybe that was the installer. I quite like the idea of the fold and staple but it would likely require me to purchase a stapler for this one job.

Carpet to hardwood transition.

Folding and stapling doesn't usually look very good. There will be dimples wherever it is stapled.

Carpet to hardwood transition.

I'm also into transitioning from carpet to hardwood... However, I'm getting rid of all my carpet lol

One of the bedrooms here was done in laminate. The transition there used a metal tack strip with a rubber top that pressed down into the metal. I've attached a couple pictures of the transitions that I haven't pulled up yet as I'm not that far into the process. Pic #1 goes from carpet to tile and #2 goes from carpet to linoleum. Hope this helps!

I've given up telling people about trac-metal transitions, because most people don't like the way they look. They are the right way and are the only way sanctioned by CRI.(Carpet & Rug Institute). They set carpet installation standards.
