Carpet is dark around the walls. What.....?

We just moved into a 10 year old house. The carpet is in nice shape but we noticed that in most of the rooms, the carpet is dark right against the baseboards. A friend told my wife it could be mold. She said it could be coming from the HVAC system. I would think the home inspector would have noticed it, if it was mold.

Has anybody ever heard of mold growing like that? If it was coming through the HVAC, would it be more noticable close to each vent in the floor? The dark color is about the same all around the room.

Thanks for any info you can give me. I don't want to call a mold company yet!

Not mold (more than likely) Its typical of homes with furnaces and or fireplaces .

Try getting it professionally steam cleaned
