Carpet coming loose on the stairs-how to fix?

I've got carpet coming loose from the stairs. The areas that are loosely fitting are where the carpet should be tucked under the front lip of the step.

To fix, can or could I use a staple gun or will that just pull loose eventually? Or should I use a carpet knee kicker to secure back down? The reason I bought up the staple gun for securing it is because I've never used a knee kicker before but do have easy access to one.

Any ideas?
