Cannot seem to get wood floor corner sanded

I now own a belt sander, orbital sander, and a palm sander, each of which now have 40 grit sand paper which barely cut through the layer of varnish on my foyer's wood floor. I was able to get through most of the varnish, but I sat with the palm sander in the corners for 30 minutes and did not get much accomplished. Any suggestions?

Edit: I should add that the stuff that is on the floor (varnish I think) is gumming up the discs/belts of everything I put down, even without putting any pressure on the sander.

You need to learn how to use a hand scraper----

There are two types used by floor finishers---the hooked scraper and the flat scraper---

A hooked scraper is the one you find in the paint section of the store---long plastic handle and a blade that can be turned 4 times before you need to sharpen.
Press and pull---when sharpened correctly will remove a lot of material fast--

A flat scraper (cabinet scraper) is a flat square of tempered steel---a burr edge must be added by you--using a steel rod rubbed over the edge of the sheet until a tiny burr is formed along the edge--

You tube will help you there---that tool removes a fine curl of wood--no sanding is needed after using a cabinet scraper--the wood will be smoother than any sander can achieve.

Shellac --that's what's gumming up the paper---nasty to sand off--clogs up paper faster than you can buy it---

Joes picture is the one---keep a flat file in your back pocket to sharpen it--or cheat and use your belt sander---I'll see if I can dig up an image of a cabinet scraper--
