Can hear seam tape crinkling under new carpet install?
New member here with a question. We just had new carpet installed with a 6lb. 7/16" pad (no waterproof layer). On certain seams throughout the house we can definitely hear what appears to be the seam tape crinkling. While we have other issues with the install job, I was wondering if the seam tape noise was either a. normal or b. easily fixed?
If you are hearing the thermal carpet seaming tape giving way it was either applied at too low a temperature and did not bond with the carpet backing and/or the installers have over-stretched the carpeting and to the point it is being overly strained.
If it is the tape, the situation will probably not get better and if it gives completely you will start loosing seams completely. No real way I know of to fix it from above.
You mentioned other install problems. It sounds like you need to call the folks back.
