Can Ditra XL be "layered???"

Sorry if this is a completely dumb question:huh: but I was wondering if Ditra XL could be layered/stacked (in the same way plywood or osb is) in order to bring up the height of a tile floor?

Never seen anyone layer it. It is too expensive if nothing else! I honestly doubt that it is a good idea, and would suggest either plywood or 1/4" wonderboard to raise the height of the floor prior to the application of ditra.

Good question - someone is always thinking outside the box.

THINK PLYWOOD - MUCH LESS COSTLY.:)

Hey Bud, my mom always said I was "special"

No seriously.....

That's a good question and I certainly don't have an answer as to why not, if not. But the cost could be reduced drastically by building with plywood first.:)

I don't see why not, aside from the cost. I know this subject has come up before, well, for regular Ditra though, not XL. The consensus was that yes it can and there may be benefits. (not just for Schluter.
