Can a Ditra Mat be Glued to Gypcrete?
I'm well advised of the shortcomings of gypcrete--->mortar doesn't adhere to it....modified mortar takes eons to set, blah, blah, blah.

Can a Ditra Mat successfully be glued to gypcrete? The old lino (aka vinyl) was glued and took the best of my shoulder to remove. Why not Ditra?

Hello again Janet,:)

Go to Schluter's Ditra Handbook and find page 11.

Thanx for the site though to the best of my ability, I'm not sure I can decipher it. To the best if my knowledge, the problem with gypcrete is that it's too dry and will suck up the moisture from anything on top of it and thus prevent any mortar from curing properly. And -->the gypcrete is bone dry (which runs contrary to one of the reasons identified in the Schulter propaganda to use it in the first place).

All I want to know, is whether a Ditra mat can be successfully glued to gypcrete like the old vinyl was and porcelain tile layed atop-->with mortar.

This is completely foreign to me and I'm tapping as many resources as I can to avoid mistakes.

Thank you all for your patience and tolerance.

Janet, If you are still having problems understanding the info, then the next logical step is to call them direct at their 800 number. The only place I know of to get correct info regarding a product is from the manufacturer. Who else knows the product better than the maker of the product?

Schluter's instructions are pretty clear:
"By addressing all of the challenges associated with today’s fast, lightweight construction methods, Schluter®-DITRA provides a durable
installation system for ceramic and stone tile over gypsum substrates.

Thinset for Ditra to gypcrete and then tile to Ditra:
"Setting and Grouting Materials
unmodified thin-set mortar – ANSI A118.1
grout – ANSI A118.3, A118.6, A118.7,

For that type of thinset, I use Mapei Kerabond. Also frequently used is Laticrete 317.
