can bamboo be refinished

I am looking into getting some bamboo flooring. They only come in prefinished with aluminum oxide.

I am curious, later down the road, if I need to refinish the flooring, can it be done? I've been told its the same process as refinishing standard hardwood floor. Is that true? Can you use polyurethane on bamboo? How about staining?

Is it possible to refinish with the same aluminum oxide?

I am leaning towards strand woven carbonized bamboo 5/8" if I do bamboo at all. Other bamboo construction is too soft (so I hear). Otherwise, I'd rather go with standard hardwood.

is this solid bamboo or engineered? 3/4 solid wood can be finished approx 4-5 times, engineered maybe 2-3. it depends on how much you have to sand off when its refinished. how much a foot is bamboo going for nowadays. I would steer away from LL for flooring.

Most bamboo is from 3/8" to 5/8" thick. You can sand and refinish it. It can be stained. Bamboo is harder than oak. Aluminum oxide is a finish put on at the manufacturer. You can put on finishes harder than poly.

I have only refinished one bamboo floor so far and it turned out good. It is very hard, so it is pretty difficult to sand, but you can do it. I suggest Bona traffic finish.
