Cabinets on laminate floor

We are putting in a desk area in our basement in a room where there will be laminate flooring. It would just be 2 18" wide x 24" deep cabinets with a 5 1/2 foot piece of laminate counter top for a desk top. It would be easier to set these cabinets on top of the laminate instead of cutting around the desk area, but would this cause any problems for the expansion of the floor?

Set the desk on the floor = no worries.

Not a problem. You can have furniture on Laminate flooring or the homes that it is in would look awfully funny empty :-)

Will the desk be built in?
If it is and they wieght of the desk is to great it will impede expansion and void you warranty.
If the floor failed at some time in the future the first think inspector would look at is the new built in desk.
Expansion and contraction of the floors is more than a semi annual thing.
I have seem some laminates expand over 3/4 inch form season to season and therer are four season in most areas.
I would be careful on this one.
