Buckled Hardwood - repairing with a saw

I just bought a new home (early 70s construction) that has hardwood floors throughout. There is one problem area going from the living room into the kitchen where it looks like the icemaker line leaked at one point and the flooring in the living room is buckled - roughly a 1 foot x 3 foot area.

When we had our home inspection, the guy said that it was an easy fix and that you simply need to run your circular saw down the seams to remove a bit of the wood and thus allow the flooring to lay down flat.

I've heard of this, but having never done it before, I'm a little hesitant to plunge a saw into my floor. It is really as straight forward as my inspector claims? Do I need to use a certain type of blade? Are there other things I need to be aware of before doing this?

He's wrong if you want to fix it the right way. Post a picture so we can make some better suggestions.

I would not do that. First there will be nails in the joint that will ruin your saw. Second unless you cut the entire length of the floor you will have a step where you end the cut and the floor will still not go together.

What type of hardwood? is it engineered stuff or full thickness hardwood? Sanding would be my choice for full thickness wood. floor.

never hear of it , Except on a floating floor , If it is floating you would relieve the pressure by, Pulling the base mold and trimmin it out as an expansion joint,I would never do any of this without a proper moisture test
