Question

boiler alcove simplest flooring

i was wondering what the SIMPLEST/CHEAPEST boiler/water heater alcove flooring would be. both the hydronic radiator boiler and the water heater are gas. i doubt i could just leave exposed subfloor, i.e. it should have some finish tier, e.g. tile but i think tiling is just an overkill. the subfloor also currently has 6 pipes going through it (coming from the basement) and i also want to avoid having to project the same position of holes on hardibecker, which is the kind of tedious work i really hate.

was thinking of putting linoleum but was skeptical if it may melt under gas appliances.

ideas, please !

thanks
