black emulsion adhesive


Hi All
Can ceramic tile be installed over old black emulsion adhesive on concrete??

Yes-----Kerabond mixed with Keralastic will work----I believe that some better modified thin set can be used over cutback---call the technical help line for the brand you have available---

If leveling is needed---Jifset mixed with Linewebers liquid latex is approved for that---

DO NOT use any solvents in an attempt to remove the cut back---it will soak into the slab and become a 'bond breaker' and put your installation at risk----Just use a razor scraper and start tiling.

Use a spray bottle with water and keep it damp while scraping. It probably contains asbestos.
