Best Sandstone tile sealer
We have a sandstone tile floor that has given us problems over the last 15 years. Sealers that we use just don't stand up.
Can anyone recommend a good sealer and good cleaner? One I had heard of was "Miracle" brand. Jim |
What brands have you tried?
I have had good results for many years with 'Aqua Mix' products---but I have never had any experience sealing limestone--- |
When it comes to natural stones limestone and sandstone can be two entirely different things.

I don't know that I have ever seen or heard of "sandstone tiles". |
Sorry--I miss read that one---sandstone is soft and absorbent---no idea how to protect that--
|
The tile is very porous and difficult to seal. It attracts dirt easily. The sealers we have used were supposed to seal the pores but they last only a short time. It stains easily and stains are hard to get out.

Poor choice of a floor material----Do your best and start saving up for a new floor--
Sorry to tell you what you already know--but sandstone is just to absorbent and soft --- Aqua Mix has a customer help line---see if they have a suggestion while you are saving up--Mike--- |

We have seen sealers that seem to work better on it. We are told not to use waxes.
Basically, we were sold a bill of goods by the tile guy when we built the home. We may end up changing it out. Jim |
Sandstone wouldn't be a practical stone to use for anything other than a wall decoration on a homes interior as far as I know.
Not exactly sure what your problems are but there is nothing you can do as far as I know. Just a poor choice of products for the purpose. |
To its credit, the material is 5/8" thick--an old world floor.
I was even thinking about sanding it down and using a clear urethane auto finish or a clear epoxy. JIM |
I didn't even know that sandstone could be used for flooring. All of it around here is too soft for anything like that.

In addition I wasn't aware that automotive finishes were suitable for foot traffic but I could be wrong. The epoxy might be a way to go but have never heard of that either. If any of the floor sees daily sunshine the epoxy will turn yellow over time. |
