Best Place to Start Laminate Flooring in Basement

Hi all,

Wanted to get your opinion about where I should be starting my laminate flooring in my newly renovated basement.

I have a attached a picture of the layout of the room - as you can see the shape is a little irregular.

My plan is to have my floor run the "long-way" (top to bottom in this layout). My question is what side of the room to start on.

My main concerns:
1. The Left-hand wall between the two windows is about 8' long, but is not perfectly parallel with the oppose wall (which borders the stairs). It's about 5/8ths of an inch off across the 8'. Should I be worried and compensate for this?
2. I will also be putting laminate down at the foot of the stairs and down the short hallway off to the right. I want to make sure that this is straight as well. This is leaning me towards starting with the wall that borders the stairs in the main room.

Any thoughts?

You can start on the window wall. The only way to compensate for the irregularity is divide it between both walls. in other words start 5/16ths out of straight with window wall. Unless the hall is way out of square there will be no problem. 5/16ths out of square on an eight foot wall won't be noticeable. Far less in the hall
