My bathroom had vinyl flooring that is 30yrs old and I am replacing it but had some mice problems and had to replace subfloor and underlayment. The underlayment was particle board that had a white coating on it and the floor stayed put really good so I put 1/2" particle bnoard down again. but went ot the local Menards and they said that I should put a 1/4" underlayment over the particle board and I really dont want to do this so can I put the patching compound on it to fill screw hooles and joints and then use some sort of primer before installing the flooring. Thanks Rick
Particleboard is a very poor product for any floor covering underlayment. In fact, if you would read the instructions from the makers of the flooring products I think you would find that particleboard is specifically excluded from use.
