Bathroom floor under tile

Hi All,

Attached are pics of a bathroom the prev owners tiled over. Looks like they went over many layers of thin peel and stick tile?

I cut a little square out to see the sub floor. Sub floor just looks wet, when it is just the adhesive from the tile...

If the subfloor looks in good condition, can I just go over it with thin plywood and then re-tile?

Fix up for sale job-----that will fail----when you are ready for a re-do----we will help----

Any remodeler sees that sort of 'hider' on occasion-----such a waste of effort---and a disappointment to the new homeowner-----

So in a perfect world...

-- Rip up everything
-- New 5/8 t&g plywood
-- 1/4 hardi board
-- tile

Good plan?

Yes! but stop to see what you have after you take out the ply or luon that is under the peal and stick, you might not need to go down to the joists.

I was already thinking of going down to the joists anyway and starting new. I tend not to trust anything in this place anymore

Looks like cut back adhesive hiding under that mess----peal it off and see what you have---the sub floor might be saved---but removing it will give you access to the pipes----so your 'new' bath can be 'new' to the heart----
