Bathroom Floor Tile Questions

I have a small (7x5) bathroom that currently has those stick down adhesive backed vinyl tiles in it. I would like to replace the floor with ceramic tile as a start to a bathroom remodel but have some questions.

1. I was planning to remove the tile and then lay cement backerboard down over it as a solid base for the ceramic. I then heard that it is too hard to get the tile and adhesive off and that I should tile over the vinyl. Input?

2. If I get the vinyl up and put a cement board down (3/8") along with tile (1/4"-3/8") will I have trouble with the toilet sealing on the wax ring correctly or with the tile/carpet transition under the door (I have clearance)?

3. Should I take the tile and the wood base out and replace with just a cement board?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bathroom Floor Tile Questions

Need a lot more info. What thickness is the plywood on the floor? What size floor joists do you have? What is the distance between them? How far do they span?

Im going from memory, but I believe the plywood is 1/2", the joists are 2x10s and I think the spacing was 12 or 16"
