bathroom floor looks bad!!

we're in a house from the 50s.

the bathroom floor has the same plasticy floors like in the kitchen, but the bathromm floor has spots and dark sections and just doesn't look good anymore.

around sink and toilet look especially bad. maybe water from below? Not sure.

replacing/covering the floor is a big job, and is not an option as we just rent. its not linoleum - its that typical fake linoleum used all thru the 70s I guess..

is there some magic cleaner that restores them?
can we use some kind of paint and just paint over the floor??

Tiling is not an option.

Are you biased?
I see you are a tiling company

Funny thing is, you may actually be talking as if it's real lino.
But I doubt it.

I am sorry to say that replacement or a rug is the only way to fix it or cover it up.

DRB, R&D is just giving you what you ask for. Their opinion. If you donít want it donít ask.

Vinyl and carpet don't belong on a bathroom floor[area matts are fine], that's why it looks like crap and your having problems, pick up a sheet of vinyl and throw it down over what you have, only fix at this point, those dark spots could be mold, trapped moisture by the vinyl or damp rugs, just my .02 worth.

Only a matter of time till that floor just rots away.

How can I tell lino from vinyl? I'm just guessing its vinyl.. Looks 70's like in its design, IMO.

Sorry if that was the way it was meant. Might have been a little! Iíve been around these forums and seen the same thing go on where because someone is a pro. People think they have something to gain by their processional point of view. Most people mean well again I apologize!

Thanx for that. I saw it as lighthearted as well.

Well, one way to tell is that is will not have fake grout lines, and will be sort of a swirly solid color look.
www.forbo.com will be some examples.

No problem, sorry if you took it the wrong way, it's just that there's the correct way and the wrong way, that floor is heading down a path of disaster that's all.

I'm with R&D on tile in bathrooms, and I've installed sheet goods/vinyl for forty years. Replaced vinyl sheet goods or vinyl tile in every home I've owned with ceramic. Unfortunately I've replaced many for home owners with the more of the same but hey I get to do it again and again and again. Job security.

Well I'd *like* tile, but we rent this house.

Maybe the landlord would work a deal with you if you install tile. Maybe credit at least the cost of the tile toward your rent. Probably have to pick tile that he approves of though.
