Basement Flooring: Laminate material

I am renovating my basement and wanted to see if I can use Laminate flooring. I would first put the under layer then the laminate flooring on top of the under layer. The Concrete floor is dry but the floor is not 100% levelled. I mean that if you take a level from one end of the room to the other, it may not be 100% levelled. Also, I found some edges where there would be a half inch to 1 inch difference over a 3 feet distance.

CAn I still use floating laminate flooring without building a subfloor or using DriCore? What is the rule of thumb for installing floating laminate flooring on unlevelled floor? Can I install the laminate flooring on this floor without breaking the connections or feeling the floating laminate floor go up and down?

Make sure the laminate you are using is not made with anything organic. Wooden laminates usually support mold growth.

I would suggest you shop for laminates specifically developed for basement. They look like the regular laminates but are 100% waterproof and inorganic floating and interlocking tiles and planks.
