Baseboard Question

I am in the process of remodeling my livingroom/dining room. I have removed all the old baseboards from the wall and have painted. I am planning on buying and installing all the trim this weekend, but I am also having new carpeting installed in about 2 weeks.

My question is, should I remove the old carpeting before putting up the NEW trim or can I keep the old carpeting down for the time being and still put up the NEW trim? Which would make the most sense??

Also, how far off the floor should the trim be?

Baseboard Question

Like Bud said.

Tear up the edges of the existing carpeting now, so that it is still "down", but separated from the tack strips. Install your BB.
