Bamboo flooring

Right now the interior of my house is all indoor/outdoor carpet even in the kitchen and I hate it. I would like to install Bamboo wood flooring in at least half the house except maybe the bedrooms and bathroom. My house is on a concrete slab and I checked underneath a part of the carpet and it looks like there's concrete backer board as the subfloor. Can I reuse the existing subfloor to put the Bamboo flooring on or will I need to install a new subfloor? I'm not totally sure on the options for how the hardwood floors come in. I know my friend installed hardwood flooring that snaps together in his house. Are there other options of Bamboo flooring besides the kind that snap together?

I love bamboo flooring and it is harder than domestic hardwoods. Once installed, it is beyond pretty. It is renewable so you get green credits. You can get it in what ever color you want.

Nice, not box store or liquidator bamboo comes in both forms for nailing like hardwood or floating or gluing or floating like other manufactured flooring. This company is my fave and they are great about sending you samples and explaining any questions to your flooring contractor. My folks love the materials and my clients have to.

With any flooring, you have to resolve your subfloor issues but you know that.

Cement tile board should never have been installed directly to a slab floor.
Your going to need a vaper barrier, also concider using engineered flooring not just a laminite.
It's far more stable, can be installed with glued seams to act as a floating floor and can still come with bamboo as the top layer.

I would take up the cement board, lay an underlayment over the slab and then get a floating bamboo floor. Just make sure it is a product that is made to go over concrete.

I personally do not like Bamboo. Way to unstable to moisture. I am in Houston and humidity is an issue for us. Solid Bamboo should NEVER be glued to the slab direct. If you do decide to try should do a calcium chloride test on your slab to check the hydro static pressure. I would install it over tar and screeds only on slab. If you choose bamboo use engineered. No worries on a second story though.
