I have a very damp basement. I have lived in the house for 38 years. When we moved in we put a rug onto the concrete which was glued to the floor by swirls of brownish glue. years ago we removed the old rug and put in a rug with a pad and that had been tacked down at the edges. Recently i removed a second rug that had just been tacked down and rented a sander to remove the glue in order to paint some epoxy resin onto the floor. We sanded the brown hard glue, have a cloud in the basement and will now paint dry lock over the surface. Do I need to worry about asbestos? Will the cloud disappear? Is the drylock going to adhere to the sanded surface? Is there another alternative? The epoxy was eliminated when we called rustoleum and were told the surface had to be totally free of glue even though it was hard. i am very, very worried about the possibility that asbestos is now in the air...the glue was brown with hard black spots in various places which I believe might be some of the black foam backing from the rug which was taken up years and years ago.
