Only way to know is to have it tested.

Almost, but not quite zero. I've only seen asbestos in 12x12s one time. They were installed in 1980. 9x9s on the other hand................

Asbestos was dropped from most building products in 1982, but suppliers could still sell whatever asbestos containing stock they had on the shelves until it was gone. Anything installed up to 1984-85 could be a guess. At any rate, if you are careful removing it, floor tiles are pretty low risk and I would not even worry about anything installed as late as 1990.

Asbestos tile was sold into the mid 90's. And it was never legally banned. The EPA lost the court case. But if you are careful, it wasn't very dangerous.

Our house in DC was built in the 30's. We had the same question when doing some remodeling. We had 9x9 asbestos tiling in the kitchen and the basement. They ripped out the kitchen and re-tiled. They carpeted over the tiles in the basement. General consensus was 12x12, not usually asbestos, but the 9x9 in the 30's were def.
