Allure Ultra - plank subfloor over joists...

I am planning to install Allure Ultra Plank flooring in my kitchen for a remodel. I currently have sheet vinyl that is only glued on the edges so it should come up fairly easy. Underneath that is a thin under-layment of what appears to be 1/4 inch plywood. Below that I have 2 layers of planks going diagnaly (in opposite directions) over the joists. There are some squeaks so my plan is the following:

1. Rip out vinyl sheet down to the planks
2. Put some screws in the planks for the squeaky areas
3. Lay down 11/32 sanded plywood over the planks to put the allure on

My question has to do with installing the plywood - from my understanding I do not want to screw this into the joists but only into the planks. And I also want to confirm that I need to leave an expansion joint between each plywood sheet of 1/8 inch?

Are the planks in poor condition? That sounds like a lot of sub floor.

No - they used the additional layer of planks in the kitchen to match it with the rest of the house which has one layer of plank subfloor and solid hardwood. The floors in the rest of the house need to be replaced and I plan on adding 3/4 TG plywood to that then new engineered floors on top. I just wanted to make sure my process for adding the 3/8 in the kitchen was correct.
