Default Advice needed about re-laying carpet

While up in one of the extra rooms upstairs the other night I noticed a mildew smell and found a rather large spot in the carpet where water had been spilled next to and under a chair mat. I pulled everything away from the area, put some fans on it and since we're in Arizona and it's still so hot, I also opened the window to reduce the humidity and help dry out the carpet. (There are advantages to 105 degrees of dry heat!)

When I got up the next morning, it was very dry but the mildew smell remains. I'm concerned that there may be some mold issues and I know a mildew smell is difficult to get rid of so I think it would be wise to pull up the carpet and check out the padding. I was thinking that I could pull the carpet up in the whole room, throw it over the brick wall in the back yard and use a high pressure sprayer to clean it really well with some fungicide then deodorize it. I can replace the padding where needed and then put the carpet back down when it's dry which shouldn't be too long since it's still so danged hot.

Is this feasible to do myself and what issues could I run into?

Thanks in advance for your help!
