5/16" Brazillian Chestnut DIY Install

Hello - New homeowner here. Just bought a foreclosure that I am completely gutting and fixing up. I'm at the flooring stage and just bought 5/16" Brazillian Chestnut to install from lumber liquidators. I'm a little nervous about doing this myself and the more I read the more concerned I become. I was wondering if anybody has installed this before and can give me advice on the right nail gun to use? Or, should I be gluing this instead? I'm doing about 900 sq feet of my house and any advice at all would be helpful. I have a plywood subfloor. Thanks!

Nothing special installation wise about that type of wood. Here is the nailer you need.

You might be able to rent one. Also, home depot has a how to book on flooring installation that is actually really good. I'd get it, for one thing it teaches you how to get everything lined up.

I would nail instead of glue. It's more forgiving since you can go slow and redo if necessary. Glue has a time component as it dries.

Thanks for the info! That gun says it is for 1/2" to 3/4" hardwood. Will it be OK with my 5/16" brazillian chestnut since it is a harder wood? Thanks again and I will definitely be checking out the book at Home Depot!

Tell me the brand and if it is engineered or hardwood and I'll tell you the gun they recommend.

Ah, well bellawood has no specific recommendations.

Borrowing from armstrong they recommend Solid 5/16" - Stanley-Bostitch S32SXBHF, Stanley-Bostitch SX150, Senco SLS20HF, or other machine designed or adapted specifically to 5/16″ solid flooring.

There is also a thread that floorguy responded to here that you might find helpful.
