I love bamboo floors! They are harder than domestic hardwoods and can be dyed just about any color. They qualify for green credits and they look beautiful.

When I say bamboo floors, I mean really nice materials with superior coatings and warranties on them. You will not get quality in any wood or bamboo flooring (or anything else but maybe a sheet vinyl remnant) for $2sf and will be very disappointed and very quickly.

Most products in that price range would not be very good. If considering bamboo maybe consider Teragren.
