Work Bench

Just moved in to my new house with the wife. We've been apartment renters for 10+ years (military) and now it's time to plant some roots. Soooo first project on the docket was the workbench. BTW I haven't done much wood working since High School about 20 years ago hahaha! I will say I'm quickly falling in love with it all over again.

Re: Work Bench

2x4, 2x6, 1/2" ply, and a solid core door blank slab. All screwed together and weighs a ton. Pretty sure the house falling down on it wouldn't crush it lol.

Ty Ty!! It was fun! thinking a cabinet above the bench will have to happen someday soon. Accumulating stuff at an alarming rate at the moment lol

Nice job. Yes, a cabinet or some pegboard to keep your bench from becoming just tool storage (and other 'stuff' seeing as it right beside the door). Some handy electrical outlets and good task lighting would be helpful too.

Re: Work Bench

Didn't think about lighting so much but I do have a 4ft bar of outlets to install near the bench. Just have to install a dedicated breaker and run the wire and install the box first lol. So far I'm the only one in the garage so the stuff that accumulates is usually tools and/or fasteners. I have a tool chest that is mostly full. Maybe pegboard under the cabinet for some minor things. I was also thinking a bulk hardware bin kind of thing in the area too. It is a 2 car garage, the other side is still full of boxes lol. Hard to do the not so fun stuff after work. I blame my wife for spoiling me with shiny new saws...don't tell her that though!

All ears on lighting ideas. The ceiling of the garage is partially vaulted and about half way in, levels off but pretty high. Maybe an LED bar somewhere to turn the sun on in there?
