Unusual Antique Folding Table Refinish

i took on this 100 year old veneered table for a blind lady that is a family friend. she didn't care HOW i did it, just that it looked better after i was done... (i know, i know, if you refinish it, it reduces the antique value, but as you can see, it had little value as ugly as it was)
as you can tell from the before and after pics, it was quite an undertaking!
large gouges, scratches, water damage, missing veneer chunks, etc.
it's a pretty cool piece of furniture though! storage underneath for cards and games.... she kept it half opened and up against the wall. (see pic below)
i think it turned out quite well, and so did she, after all her friends came in and saw it and told her how nice it looks now! the handmade brass hinges were cool too. *enjoy*

Unusual Antique Folding Table Refinish

Update: The lady had a guy offer her $500 for the table. She turned him down.
The weeds died.

Wow DM, that is beautiful, you did a great job on that one. I bet she was happy with it, I sure would have been.

Thanks! It was a labor of love, I tell ya. That was one gorgeous table under all that crap. Po)
(and UNIQUE too, the way it slid open sideways AND flipped up) I want to do one similar when I finish building here, likely around 2025?

Beautiful.

Never seen the foldout like that before. Do you have any knowledge of it's history? Handmade, factory, age, style?

None whatsoever, nope. She says it's been in her family since she was a little girl and was told it's age then. 20? 30? ....add that to her age now and it's about 100. I should have looked underneath closer and shot pics of any numbers/markings/identifiers, etc. Maybe I'll have the wife do that next time she's over there.

Poor little weeds. Did you try to save them?

You know, I did, but they put down "Goatie's" brand weed-killer and they just disappeared!

DM, is that new wood on the top or did you just refinish the top?

Stripped years of polish, repaired gouges, gently sanded scratches and refinished.
You could barely see the wood under the filth.
