The Psychedelic Fishtank!

OK, so it's not a 60's rock band, but I thought I'd share a pic of it anyways.
I got these panes of glass off craigslist, and....
I razored off the frost and design on one side, leaving the mirror patterns.
Then I used the same design pane for the back wall.
Then it got framed in cherry somehow...
The wife loves it, the fish have had no comments at this time.
It needs a lid, but opinions seem varied as to whether or not it should have a light in it.
Some sources say light feeds algae, others say the fish like/need the light!

Very unique. Seriously though, how did you seal those joints?

The Psychedelic Fishtank!

My hobby is breeding tropical fish and I am an admin on Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazines online forum. If you have any questions let me know.

Here are some ideas. I paint the back glass on all my tanks..I have 5 running and two in the setup phase. It makes viewing the fish much better and hides cables and some equipment. What I would do with this is by a thin sheet of white arcrylic and fasten it tightly to the back glass (outside) of the tank. Then get a small low powered colored light and mount it somewhere behind the tank. It will look pretty cool. As far as the top light goes, most fresh water fish do not really need light but it is much easier to view a lit tank. I only use my lights when viewing. Although if you have plants you will need light.

What did you seal it with? Also what filtration are you using?

I used 100% silicone aquarium sealer, (of course,) and the cherry frame reinforces it more than enough.
It's just 2 old goldfish, but we just clean it out every few months and clean the marbles and gravel.
We have crystal clear well water, so there's no waiting for them to get back home. Po)
The back pane is clear glass with a frosted piece of the same pattern as the mirrored front behind it, so it darkens it a bit.

That looks pretty cool!

One thing I've always thought would be awesome is an in-wall fish tank. I think my biggest issue is I would forget to feed the fish and they would die. *gets childhood memory of flushing goldfish down the toilet*

That is awesome!

Light does feed algae, but the fish do like it and the tank will look waaaay better with a light on.

If you use a small, low power light you can limit the algae while still getting to enjoy your tank in its full glory. (Plus algae are not entirely without benefit since they consume nitrates, the end product of your tank's biological filtration.)
